War games have always been made to take place on the typical bigger continents. Western references have always been America, Russia, Europe and France and when it took place in Asia, it’s either China or Japan mainly.
When Homefront was released in 2011, it made North Korea into the main threat and that was very much welcomed, although I regretted there was no Wondergirls downloadable content somehow (just kidding)
Going back a little further to Just Cause 2, it featured a fictitious island littered with sub-districts in named in Malay. While it was not specifically Malaysia, the introduction of a new language was very fresh.
Sometime last year, the PS3-exclusive SOCOM 4 game centred on scenes with references to Indonesia language and music.
At the end of June, I’m looking forward to Spec Ops: The Line, a shooter adventure that takes place in Dubai, all covered by a bad sandstorm.
And in two months’ time, we will have Sleeping Dogs, a resurrection of the True Crimes franchise, and the game will be set in Hong Kong.
Fast forward to today, I just found out Singapore is in the next Call of Duty : Black Ops 2 game coming out this summer. We do not know much other than the cool gameplay trailer posted here.
This is a great start and I look forward to more new and fresh Asia locations in videogames!

John Laster is a long time editor of TheGameReviews.com. Recently at PAX, he (along with a couple others) put together a coverage on upcoming XboxLive Arcade games and had it posted on xblafans.com. Jump in to the article here. At the time of posting this, some of the articles are not up yet, but give them time. In any case, this is a great rundown of the titles you can expect to play soon.
I was already set on Magic: The Gathering 2013 since it was announced a few days ago, although I’m learning some disappointing news about the game from this article…
What will you be looking forward to play?
This is it! After weeks of qualifying rounds from over a thousand (I heard) tournament participants, the finalists of the competition will battle (or rather dance off) at Plaza Singapura, to win over $15,000 worth of cash and prizes!
Also, if you’re looking for a new Xbox360 console, check out the newly launched Star Wars Kinect bundle or the ultra heavenly looking pure white console + kinect bundle. Some blockbuster games are also on sale here.
