There was once upon a time where I change my gamertag a few times within a year. No, I wasn’t running/hiding away from anyone but I was experimenting on that perfect ID. I was torn between using my real name or a nickname and along the way, I got creative in mixing the two.
Spending 800 MS points was pricey but I made sure I was certain on the new name before I proceeded to change. Nevertheless, that’s about S$17 per transaction, and after a while, I decided to stop getting creative and spend it on game add-ons instead.
The problem then was, once the gamertag is changed, all my previous gamertags are lost….until now.
Xbox LIVE has released a feature to allow expired gamertags to be reused again. According to Major Nelson, the list is being updated and more will be made available.
I ran through the feature but it was not easy to find my past gamertags. One trick is to type a name and let the search filter narrow down to those names.
I changed my gamertags nine times in the past (yea I remember bragging about it somewhere) but I didnt see familiar gamertags from the suggested list. I recall one of them to be ‘Neezum’, something I came up with sometime in 2008 when I was involved in Nokia Ngaged product marketing, and I’m happy to see it being available again.
After much thought on the options available, I decided to go for ‘Neezum’.
Will I change the URL for this blog too? Maybe.
Here’s a nice site to show off your new gamertag, since MGC.net has closed down.
By the way, I couldn’t find that Major Nelson video online, so here’s one recorded from my iPhone 3GS.
