Samsung Singapore announced on Facebook about a private Xbox360 gaming event with their 3D LED TVs which took place at their boutique at Vivo City on Saturday, 24 April from 3-6pm.
I met a couple of casual and hardcore Xbox360 gamers who brought their own collection of games to test on the new TVs. Unfortunately, perhaps in the excitement, no one brought additional controllers.
The following games were seen to be tested at the event:
Devil May Cry 4
Gears of War2
Guitar Hero series
Sega All-Stars Racing
Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction
…and probably more (when I wasn’t around)
While watching the games being played, my personal opinion is the conversion success from 2D to 3D vary from one game to another. For some games like Modern Warfare2, Fifa 10, Gears of War2 and Forza Motorsport3, the difference was noticeable. However for games such as Darksiders and Devil May Cry 4, there was very little difference.
Then there are games that are somehow in between. Halo 3 and Splinter Cell: Conviction showed mixed results depending on the mission stages. Maybe we need to more time to experiment ourselves but my views are based from watching people play for a few minutes.
I hope Samsung organises another of such event so we can run more tests. I think I would like to test the difference of playing DVDs on Xbox360 compared to playing a Blu Ray version of the same movie on Samsung Blu Ray players.
Thank you Samsung for the opportunity and for the great buffet spread at the event!
