Sure, it’s not revolutionary, but there’s nothing wrong with bringing old formula into the new. Many games have lifted the mechanics from God of War, Grand Theft Auto, Splinter Cell and Guitar Hero series.
From the reviews, it’s been said that Darksiders incorporated gameplay elements from mainly God of War, Legend of Zelda and Portal.
I think I spotted a couple more:
Dark Sector – for its Ninja-Star boomerang gameplay.
Devil May Cry – for its locked-doors-until-you’ve-cleared-all-enemies stages.
Gears of War – for that audio notification after you solved each level of the environmental puzzles.
Halo – for the way War held the huge particle cannon around.
