Final Fantasy XIII is released today, in Japan, in Japanese language and only on PS3.
Pictures of unboxing of the game and that limited edition White/Pink Final Fantasy XIII 250GB PS3 are making its way on the internet.
Some gamers in Singapore or in the region who understand Japanese may be busy securing their copy of the game or bundle, but what about the rest of the gamers in Asia who are not literate in the language?
We all know that the English version of FFXIII will be released in March 2010, but we are uncertain as of now whether the English version of FFXIII on Xbox360 will be available for local release here, or at least compatible to be played on NTSC/J Xbox360s. If we were to take cues from the past, there was a Final Fantasy Online Xbox360 game released around 2006 that was not compatible for local consoles.
Will we be excluded again? As of now, there is no official announcement on local Xbox360 version of FFXIII.
If Square Enix or Microsoft wants to increase market share in this region, they should capitalise on this opportunity and make FFXIII available here. Otherwise, most gamers who own both consoles would get the PS3 version of FFXIII (which is region-free), and that would diminish the reason behind the big news at E3 2008 (see video).
Remember when GTAIV was announced on E32006 (i was there!) to be on Xbox360 by Peter Moore and when it was eventually launched on 28 April 2008, there was a local release of the game (Normal and Limited Edition of the Xbox360 version) here and Microsoft launched a promotion that lets you win Microsoft points if you buy and play GTAIV on launch day. That, I believe, contributed to growing market share here.
If they keep this up for FFXIII, then we (Xbox360 gamers in the region) should have no worry.
The 250GB Xbox360 console is already available in US. So by March 2010, when and if there is a local FFXIII launch here, I guess there could be a similar promotion for a 250GB FFXIII-themed Xbox360 console.
Wait for it.
Save yourself from forking out $120+ for a Japanese version of FFXIII game and $600+ FFXIII 250GB PS3 console now.
I have a PS3 and I know it’s sufficent to get a small capacity PS3 and change the hard drive yourself. Mine is a white 60GB PS3 upgraded to 320GB.
Have a wonderful holiday this Christmas!
