That much awaited event finally came. Scheduled to appear at 130pm, the grand stage started playing the familiar Halo3 trailers on the big screen, drawing the crowd to fill in the seats.
Then the emcee started to throw exclusive Halo3 goodies (Halo3 notebooks, T-shirts, posters and XBOX lanyards) to the front row, causing the crowd to swell forward. 10 minutes before the show started, the seats were almost filled.
The show started with a troop of guards storming in and taking control of the grand stage, clearing the path for Sgt Johnson to appear. He alerted the audience of the crisis at hand and how the situation calls for heroes to step forward. Not just any hero, but men who dare to take risks, men who BELIEVE that every single person matters.
Sgt Johnson called the troop to remember their mission, which is to FINISH THE FIGHT, which the troop answered loudly a couple of times.
A familiar chorus from the Halo theme is played and Sgt Johnson announced the arrival of one man who will make a difference – the Master Chief! As he made his entrance, the audience cheered! Master Chief is in trademark army green shiny metallic armour stood tall as the audience whipped out their cameras, camera phones and video cams to capture the moment. The armour was very well done. I wish I could get my hands on the helmet.
Master Chief advanced to the crowd and stood for a couple of minutes as the cameras flashed away at the precious close up. He strode along the walkway and stopped again for the famous rests-machine gun-over-shoulder pose, much to the delight of anyone who has ever played the game.
By this time, I don’t suppose many people were paying attention to Sgt Johnson and his speech (laughs) until Master Chief alerted Sgt Johnson of an impending attack by the Covenants, causing the troop to assembled and prepare for the battle.
The treat did not end there. The skit was followed with an exclusive view of a never-seen-before footage of Halo3 which lasted about 120 seconds, leaving the crowd for more.
The emcee reminded the crowd to BELIEVE, as he threw another batch of goodies to the floor.
We then adjourned to the XBOX Halo3 booth for Master Chief to appear, where we ambushed him for a couple of photos together with XBOX PM Alan Chou.
I wonder if we ever get to see Cortana in the flesh someday….
